Inmunizations
All travelers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic 4-8 weeks before departure.
Immunizations are NOT REQUIRED for entry by Guatemala’s government but are RECOMMENDED by the IMB and U.S. Public Health Service (CDC) to give you important protection. You can use your own discretion in these recommended immunizations however we strongly recommend (per the suggestion of medical professionals) making sure your tetanus is up to date and getting vaccinated for Hep A and Typhoid. If you plan to be around any medical situations while on your project, then Hep B is recommended as well.
However, it is always wise to keep up your basic shots such as tetanus and diphtheria. Risk of contracting malaria is minimal. Travelers might wish to take the extra precaution of a prophylactic medicine such as chloroquine. Decisions about immunizations and anti-malarial medications should be made on a personal basis after consultation with your personal physician.
Pro-biotics are another option, and depend on each one case. (We have had people taking them and still getting sick, and other opposite cases, having no digestive problems).
